Things have been very quiet on the cat front. We have been having hot weather so they basically have been laying around. Although, Grover is still bugging Lucy.

They both have been bird watching and I'm half expecting Grover to go straight through the screen! Grover did get in trouble when I caught him climbing up the deck/patio screen door. He climbed up it about 3 to 4 feet!!!! He was so cute. Actually, he started out as a she, as apparently we didn't check close enough! So for a month, he was Alexis the pretty kitty; then we took her to the vet and he told us that he was definately a boy. I laughed! Of course, we had all the gender jokes and such. We still say he meows like a girl. He looked like a girl when he was small, now he definately looks and acts like a boy.

Grover is adventurous, likes to run and is all feet, he has this great big plume of a tail and proudly shows it off. He has a mane like a lion and lies down like one too. He loves to wrestle with Lucy and get her really ticked off. They will sit a lick each other and once he has had enough of that - the fight is on. Grover is usually quiet but some days can be quite vocal. He is smart as can be and has this beat up toy mouse that he takes everywhere.

Grover is occasionally cuddly, for like about, 10 seconds. But he does like to hang in the same room as everyone and sometimes, even on the same piece of furniture. Just don't pet him.

The vet told us that he looks like he has some Mancoon (Maine Coon) in him. So I looked up the description and we think that he does. He is very big, the big mane and tail, big feet with the best "tufts" of fur sticking out and the small "girly" meow. He's beautiful.

We love the Grove! Oh yeah, Grover's other names: Grove, the boy, the blur (because he runs so fast), Gopher and Bubbie.

Lucy the Cat

Lucy is our first cat. We got her when she was two years old from MEOW Foundation. It's a rescue place for cats. Lucy had kittens before and once her previous owners gave away her kittens, then they moved away and abandoned Lucy. Sad but now she has a great place. Lucy is about 9 or 10 years old now and she has had diabetes for about two years. I was giving her insulin shots and we changed her food to diabetic stuff. But I stopped the insulin and the food seems to be doing the trick. Lucky.

Lucy is an affectionate cat and comes when you call her. Rare for a cat, I know. When I'm sitting on the couch she will climb up to my right shoulder, not the left, and cuddle in my hair. She gets the cat crazies at least once a day, which is quite comical. She usually will be in the same room as you or at least the same floor of the house. She doesn't do this as much as when we first got her. I think it was because she was abandoned.

She likes to egg on Grover to play fight and it's funny to watch. But then they both get really mad and "IT'S ON"! Then she will growl, hiss and spit. She good at expressing her emotions. Lucy also has the best disposition for a cat. She's great. Lucy also likes to drink her water out of a cup in the bathroom with her paw and she loves to make the bed with me.

Lucy has several names... Lucy, Lucia (Italian), Chia, Chia Pet, Luce Caboose, and occasionally I have to shout out "Lucy, you have some 'splainin' to do".

That's Lucy.

The Chewing Cat

The story begins like this... "Once upon a time..." No "It was a dark and stormy night" NO

It was one summer morning, I was just waking up but still in a bit of a slumber. The sun was up and warming the trees and grass. I reached over to pet Lucy. She is always a cuddly kitty in the morning. But wait...what the heck is that? Why does my foot hurt so much? What? GROVER! NO! No - toes!! Ouch. Remember when I said before that I would find out more about Grover, the younger cat. Well, he's a chewer. This is not the first time I have woken up to having my feet and toes chewed on. One foot still has signs of "vampire" fangs.

Oh that Grover. But he's still a real cutie besides his fangs in my feet.

Potty Train Your Cat

The only thing I hate about having cats is ... the dreaded litterbox! And now that I have two cats, it's even more work. I saw this website for the "Litter Kwitter". It's brilliant. You can actually "potty train" your cat. This is to use the human toilet. No more scooping, no more litter costs! BRILLIANT! I think I will invest in this product as it would be great to get rid of the litter box. Also it would be a hoot to see my cats use the toilet! haha

For those who would like to check it out go to http://www.litterkwitter.com/

Cat's Thoughts

Have you every wondered what goes through a cat's head? I'm sure most people say that cats are stupid and that all they hear is "Blah, blah, blah, (their name) blah" But I don't believe that one bit. My oldest cat, Lucy, knows exactly what we are saying. You see, Lucy is diabetic and she has to eat special diabetic food but she loves to sneak the kitten food. I'm sure it's like she's eating a salad bar and the kitten food is fast food. Well, sometimes it is fast food when she's trying to sneak it and we catch her as she runs away, dropping kibble out of her mouth! Then sometimes she boldly stands there when I chastise her with that defiant look on her face. She looks like she is saying, "Yeah, and what are you going to do about it?"

The youngest cat, Grover, I'm still trying to figure out what he's thinking. I know he LOVES to tick off Lucy. He also likes to talk a lot. I'll let you know more when I figure him out.

"Cat Crazies"

I'm sure all cat owners know this term. One is 9 years old, Lucy, and the other is 10 months, Grover. They pretty much get along; they will play and lick each other one minute and the next they will fight like...well...CATS!

As I am writing this, they are conspiring behind my back to dig into the cat food bag. If I don't put it high up they help their selves by chewing holes in the bag. Definately two characters, that's for sure.

I spoil them a lot by going to Petsmart. They have a ton of supplies for all animals like cats, dogs, birds, fish, small animals (gerbils, I have one of those too) and reptiles. Of course I head straight for the cat aisle; as I can get food, litter and lots of toys. I'm lucky to have a Petsmart close by but their website is fun to shop at too. They have a 1000 locations across North America. Ordering online is easy and convenient and they have specials like FREE shipping over $75.00 and coupons and special deals throughout the year.
